Psalm 150

Praise for God’s Surpassing Greatness

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
    praise him according to his surpassing greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;
    praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
    praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
    praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

The arts are by nature collaborative.  Even the solitary poet and novelist or painter needs an audience. The playwright needs directors, producers, actors, scenic designers and a myriad of others including an audience to have his or her play come to fruition.

The art of making choral music is also collaborative.  In choir we will increase our musical skills as individuals, bring those skills to the task of making choral music always for an audience, whether that be for only one person or a crowd of thousands.   Choral music brings beauty alive for our good and for those for whom we sing. Choral music allows us to be in contact with people from around the world and different time periods through the music we sing. This art form is a truly rich experience for us who sing and for those who hear.  Through our collaboration, work and play with music, may we become richer members of Christ who is our song.
